Since the Atlantic Accord in 1985, East Coast oil and gas production has had a major impact on the region. New areas for exploration are opening in the Gulf of St. Lawrence with the recent agreement between the Government of Canada and the Province of Quebec, as well as in the Arctic in areas being affected by climate change.
