Issues & Projects – Racial Equality
Racial Equality Implementation Committee
In 2000, the Racial Equality Implementation Committee was struck to direct the implementation of 60 Racial Equality Resolutions adopted by CBA National Council. The resolutions were based on the recommendations that emanated from the February 1999 Report of the Working Group on Racial Equality entitled Racial Equality in the Canadian Legal Profession. In March 2003, the Canadian Race Relations Foundation chose the CBA as a finalist for its Award of Excellence.
The Committee completed its mandate and submitted its final report in August 2004. The Standing Committee on Equity now assumes responsibility for implementation of the racial equality resolutions.
UN Special Rapporteur on Racism
Pursuant to the mandate established by the UN Commission on Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur undertakes missions to countries. Special Rapporteur Doudou Diène visited Canada in September 2003 and the CBA made this presentation to him in Regina.
