Eligibility
- Candidates must be Canadian citizens.
- Groups are not acknowledged as candidates.
- There are no posthumous awards.
Presentation
The Award is presented at the Canadian Bar Association Annual Conference Council Awards Luncheon in August. Candidates are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses to the Awards presentation.
Nomination Procedure
- Nominations must be submitted by individuals.
- A formal nomination form must be completed.
- Nominations must be accompanied by three letters of support, stating reasons for the candidate's nomination.
- A concise Curriculum Vitae of the Nominee must be included.
All supporting documentation must be submitted with the nomination to: The Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Law, Senior Director of Communications, Canadian Bar Association, 865 Carling Avenue, Suite 500, Ottawa, ON K1S 5S8.

Selection Process
The CBA Awards Committee is responsible for selecting the successful candidate.
Award
The Award, created by Governor General Ramon Hnatyshyn takes the form of a medallion designed by the Governor General's Office of Heraldry.
