How to Report Your Professional Development Hours
All Law Society members are required to report their Professional Development (PD) hours every year. As a service to CBABC members, attendance at Section meetings and other CBA PD events are recorded to the CBA PD Resource Site. This tool helps members track progress towards their personal goals and mandatory continuing professional development.

CBABC Forums and Sections

Annual Mandatory Reporting to the Law Society on Professional Development Hours The Law Society of British Columbia instituted mandatory reporting of professional development effective January 1, 2009. All practising lawyers -- full time and part time -- must complete a minimum of 12 hours of approved educational activities annually. At least two hours must pertain to any combination of professional responsibility and ethics, client relations, and practice management. The Canadian Bar Association is pleased to report that the Law Society of British Columbia has confirmed that professional development activities include attendance at CBABC Section presentations. As well, a personal tally of your CBABC professional development hours will be available online to members to view and print at will. CBA membership and Section participation is a very cost-effective means of achieving the professional development expectations of the Law Society.
