CBABC Law Week in British Columbia
A public legal education program that provides an opportunity for young people and adults to become familiarized with the Canadian legal system. In celebration of Law Week, a number of events such as mock trials, free legal classes, citizenship ceremonies, courthouse tours, public speaking contests and essay contests for high school students were held throughout British Columbia.

CBABC/LSBC Bench and Bar Dinner - Vancouver
A capacity room attended this year’s Bench and Bar Dinner on November 19, 2008 at the Crystal Ballroom of the Pan Pacific Hotel. Mr. John Hunter, QC, President of the Law Society of British Columbia welcomed the guests to the event and was emcee for the evening. This year’s CBABC winner of the Georges A. Goyer, QC Memorial Award for Distinguished Service was Marvin Storrow, QC, who was presented his award by President Maisonville. President Hunter awarded the winner of the 2008 Law Society Award to John McAlpine, QC. Both recipients gave inspiring and sometimes humorous acceptance speeches and were further honoured by a standing ovation.

CBABC/VBA 12th Annual Golf Tournament
The Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch and the Vancouver Bar Association were pleased to once again join forces to host the annual CBABC/VBA Golf Tournament on June 19, 2008 at the University Golf Club in Vancouver. The proceeds of this event fund an annual award for a UBC student and a UVic student who best exemplify the ideals served by the Canadian Bar Association. This year's tournament was a tremendous success raising more than $12,000 in support of the Law Student Awards fund.

CBABC Women Lawyers Forum Fall Launch and Award of Excellence Luncheon
The CBABC Women Lawyers Forum held a Fall Launch and Award of Excellence Luncheon on October 29, 2008 in celebration of its sixth year of successfully promoting the stature and influence of women in the legal profession. At the luncheon, the first Award of Excellence was presented to Maria Morellato, QC and the 2008 CBA Cecilia I Johnstone Award was presented to Professor Joan Brockman.
