In conjunction with the American Bar Association (ABA) Midyear Meeting, the CBA-BC WLF and the National Conference of Women’s Bar Association (NCWBA) are presenting an event on February 2, 2018 (details below).

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The CBA-BC WLF and the NCWBA are presenting an event on Challenges and Rewards for Women in Politics – Both Personal and Professional on February 2, 2018. The event will include a conversation with the Honorable Ellen Rosenblum, Attorney General of the State of Oregon, and the Honorable Suzanne Anton, QC, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Province of BC.

Register for the 2018 ABA Midyear Meeting in Vancouv$er from Wednesday, January 31, 2018 to Monday, February 5, 2018.

Jan. 19: Register for the annual Mid-Winter Conference. The WLF-MB is hosting a session with the CCCA during the conference titled What’s Diversity Got to Do with It?

Nova Scotia:

Jan. 22: Save the date for a panel discussion on challenges faced by women lawyers negotiating salaries.

Mar. 8: For International Women’s Day, the Section will hold their annual collection drive for women shelters. For more information, contact CBA-NS.

Mar. 19: Save the date! A workshop geared toward professional women balancing their careers with acting as caregivers for elderly family members at home.

Ontario:

Feb. 7: Register for a thought-provoking cross-generational discussion called Feminism Revisited: Is the Revolution Over?

Northwest Territories:

Mar. 2- Mar. 4: Mark your calendar! WLF-NT is hosting a retreat at Blachford Lake Lodge where professional development will be balanced with time to enjoy outdoor activities and informal indoor conversations by the fire. For more information, contact CBA-NT.

British Columbia:

Save the date! Attend the spring potluck on March 8, 2018, in the New Westminster area, to celebrate International Women’s Day. Contact the CBA-BC for more information.

Mark your calendar! CBA-BC will be organizing a WLF retreat at Sparkling Hill from April 6 - April 8, 2018.

Oct. 25: The inaugural Fraser Valley Fall Mingler was held at Backyard Vineyards with over 60 lawyers in attendance who enjoyed an evening of dinner, drinks, and networking.

Nov. 14: The WLF launched their mentoring program at the orientation lunch with speakers Amy Fong, Nicole Howell, and Rhona Lichtenwald. This year, 79 mentoring pairs were matched.

Newfoundland & Labrador:

Mar. 2- Mar. 3: Stay tuned for CBA-NL and WLF-NL events this winter, including the CBA-NL Winter Meeting at Marble Mountain with an event to mark International Women’s Day 2018. Check the CBA-NL webpage for updates.

Saskatchewan:

Mar. 7: Mark your calendar for a luncheon with judges for a discussion on view from the bench.

Apr. 4: Save the date! Heather Exner-Pirot will have a presentation on Arctic sovereignty and Arctic International law agreements. For more information, contact CBA-SK.

December 13: The WLF-SK held a session on Domestic Violence in Saskatchewan- Provincial Legislation update with MLA and Interim Leader of the Official Opposition, Nicole Sarauer, who discussed recent changes in legislation to improve the lives of domestic violence survivors.

Alberta:

Mar. 9: Save the date! The WLF-AB North is hosting a webinar on unconscious bias and the need for diversity and inclusion in the legal field for International Women’s Day. Registration will be open in the New Year. Be sure to check the CBA-AB webpage for updates.

Prince Edward Island:
