AT THE FOREFRONT OF COMPETITION LAW

The CBA Competition Law and Foreign Investment Review Section's mandate is to:

  • Provide CBA members with information on current legal developments in the competition field, both domestically and internationally
  • Promote a greater awareness and understanding of legal and policy issues relating to competition law and foreign investment review
  • Promote ongoing consultation with the Competition Bureau, Department of Justice Canada, Competition Tribunal, Investment Review Division of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, and Canadian Heritage on issues relating to the administration of the Competition Act and the Investment Canada Act
  • Ensure consultation with government on current and proposed enforcement policies and practices
  • Contribute to the review of competition legislation and foreign investment review legislation 
  • Foster relations in foreign jurisdictions with the legal profession and others
  • Promote cooperative educational efforts on issues related to competition law

Our Committees

Members are encouraged to join and participate in the Section's 12 active committees. Enroll online through the CBA Listserv Enrolment webpage (CBA membership login required).

Committees prepare submissions to the Competition Bureau, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and various parliamentary bodies on current issues in competition law. They also host educational presentations, propose programs for our annual spring and fall conferences, and liaise with relevant domestic and foreign organizations.

Our members also participate in roundtable meetings with senior officials from the Competition Bureau.
