Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and support to other Ledcor in house lawyers, and the business/business representatives in multiple jurisdictions. Interpret federal and provincial/state legislation and regulations relevant to the business
- Identify and prioritize legal risks and alternative strategies in a variety of fields
- Negotiate and prepare construction/commercial contracts and legal documents
- Identify and communicate gaps in contract compliance relative to Ledcor’s Contractual Risk Management Policy
- Assist/advise on claims within the business and/or support the transition of claims and litigation matters to in-house litigation counsel or external counsel
- Provide research, advice and other legal assistance to other senior lawyers regarding a diverse range of legal issues
Qualifications:
- At least 4 years of experience as a lawyer in house in a contracts role, a law firm or combination of in house and law firm experience
- Bachelor's Degree (Canada) / Juris Doctor in Law
- Member in good standing of a provincial law society
- Preferred experience in construction contracts
- Strong corporate/commercial legal skills, including excellent drafting, negotiation and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Creativity and sound judgment
- Ability to proactively identify key tasks and action items, meet tight deadlines and balance conflicting priorities
- Active listener, effective communicator and composed under pressure
- Quick learner with desire to increase knowledge of industry and market conditions
