What is the Lawyers' Assistance Program?

The Lawyers' Assistance Program is a confidential counseling service designed to assist you and your family with a wide range of personal problems affecting health, well being and professional life, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Marital or Family Problems
  • Alcohol or Drug Abuse
  • Financial Difficulties
  • Practice problems
  • Work and Career concerns
  • Stress
  • Other distress.

How is this service provided?

The Canadian Bar Association (Nunavut Branch) has contracted with the Ontario Lawyer Asssistance Program to provide this service. The Ontario Lawyer Assistance Program “OLAP” provides assistance to members of the legal profession and their families dealing with issues such as addictions, stress/burnout, work and family pressures and mental or physical health. Assistance may be provided through one-on-one peer support, assessment, referrals to services, counselling, links with related services, education, or information.  OLAP also has in-house staff who are qualified to provide an immediate crisis response if that is needed.

Who can use the service?

The program is open to members of the Law Society of the Nunavut (including articling students) and their immediate family.

What about confidentiality?

The Lawyers' Assistance Program is completely confidential. The Law Society and CBA will receive only statistical information regarding the number of callers - the names of callers and the particulars of their problems will not be released.

How do I use the service?

Simply call OLAP at 1 877 584 6227, or using the other contact information provided at http://www.olap.ca/ and identify yourself as a member of the Law Society of Nunavut or a family member.
