The Canadian Bar Association is concerned about the recent changes to the judicial system in Israel. The reform will severely weaken the Israeli judicial system and poses a threat to the independence of the judiciary, an essential component of the good functioning of a free, just, and democratic society based on the rule of law.
The CBA stands in solidarity with its colleagues of the Israeli Bar Association. We follow the situation closely, as the Israeli Supreme Court will now hear appeals against the new law.
We also reiterate the importance of the rule of law as an essential pillar that supports democracy as well as human rights and freedoms.
