CBA Administrative Law and Labour and Employment Law Conference

Ottawa (Nov. 17-18)

Our last PD conference of the calendar year promises to be a memorable one. The agenda is packed with hours of CPD content, covering intersections between administrative law, labour and employment law, pensions and benefits law, Aboriginal law, and constitutional and human rights law.

The Hon. Justice Suzanne Côté of the Supreme Court of Canada is our keynote speaker.

There are special discounts available to lawyers who attended the CBA Access to Information and Privacy Law Symposium and to members of the CBA Pensions and Benefits Law Section.

2017 Fall Law Series

We have two webinars left in our Fall series of substantive law webinars.

The CBA Constitutional and Human Rights Law Section and the CBA Administrative Law Section are jointly presenting Best Practices for Constitutional Rights Litigation on Nov. 16, featuring tips from an impressive panel of seasoned constitutional rights advocates.

On Nov. 23, the CBA Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section presents Update on International Climate Change Law and Carbon Markets, an overview of the state of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the future prospects for an emissions trading market.

Our list of Winter 2018 Law Series webinars will be available later this month. Check cba.org/webinars for updates and to see our catalogue of past recordings.

CBA Solutions Series

The end of year is fast approaching and in most jurisdictions it’s time to log your CPD hours. The CBA Solutions Series is an excellent way to get the ethics, professionalism and practice management hours required by many law societies.

We have two live sessions remaining. On Nov. 14 it’s Fearless Advocacy: The Challenges of Representing an Unpopular Client, featuring Erin Dann and Nadia Effendi – two experienced trial and appeal lawyers who will offer advocacy tips for when your client doesn’t elicit sympathy from the public.

On November 28, Kevin Frank from the Second City Theatre and lawyer Alex Colangelo will present Thinking on Your Feet: Applying Improv Fundamentals to the Practice of Law. The skills learned in improvisation – including active listening, reading and using body language, and resiliency in the face of the unexpected – also apply in the practice of law. Don’t miss this unique presentation.

If you missed a live presentation, check out the full program website for access to recordings.
