CBA on new National Immigration Detention Framework

  • June 15, 2017

The Canadian Bar Association submitted a response to the Canadian Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) consultation on the new National Immigration Detention Framework on behalf of the Immigration Law Section and the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Community Forum.

The CBA sections congratulate the Government of Canada on its efforts to implement a new National Immigration Detention Framework, and agree with many of the recommendations set out in the Summary Report of the Framework and Stakeholder Roundtable Discussions.

 The submission addresses four issues of particular concern to CBA membership:

  • CBSA oversight;
  • Minors and detention;
  • Videoconferencing; and
  • Gender identity and discretion
