Board of Directors Elections

The CBA Board of Directors and national Section and Forum Chairs began voting Friday, March 31 for the new Board, a panel that will be skills-based, geographically representative, and reflective of the diversity of Canada’s legal profession.

While the Board will have 14 members, this year only 11 seats are in contention, as current President René Basque (New Brunswick) and Treasurer Dean Scaletta (Manitoba) will stay on to ensure continuity from one governance system to the next. Current Vice-President Kerry Simmons will be our president for 2017-18, after which the president will be chosen from among the Board members.

We received 41 applications from members, with at least one from each of the 10 provinces and three territories. The asterisks denote the slate of candidates recommended by the Interim Governance and Equality Committee as best meeting the mandatory and preferred criteria outlined in Annex B of resolution 16-01-A.

Please note that the candidate from the Northwest Territories has withdrawn. The Chief Electoral Officer has issued a new call for applications from the Northwest Territories. The application period closes on May 6.

Electors – the 2016-2017 Board of Directors, the National Section Chairs and the National Forum Chairs – have until 8 p.m. EDT on April 27, 2017 to cast their vote.  Results will be announced on May 1, 2017.
