CBA Calls on Federal Government to Support Leonard Peltier’s Plea for Clemency

  • November 01, 2016

The CBA is seeking the Government of Canada’s support for an application for clemency for Leonard Peltier. In a letter dated October 28, the CBA has asked Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to contact her counterpart, US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, to support Mr. Peltier’s request for clemency. This follows a resolution passed by the CBA’s governing Council in August 2016.

Mr. Peltier was extradited from Canada in 1976 based on evidence subsequently acknowledged by the FBI to be fraudulent. He has now been incarcerated in the United States for over 40 years, is 71 years of age and suffers from diabetes and a heart condition.
