Call for Nominations: CBA Judges' Forum

  • July 19, 2016

The Canadian Judges’ Forum is now accepting nominations for the positions of Secretary-Treasurer and two Executive Members for the term September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2017.

The National Officers have nominated Hon. Dan MacRury (Provincial and Family Courts of Nova Scotia) for the Secretary-Treasurer position and Hon. Simon Ruel (Superior Court of Quebec) and Hon. Kael McKenzie (Provincial Court of Manitoba) for Executive Member.  Additional nominations will be accepted until August 8, 2016.

The Executive Committee is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the Forum’s activities. The duties of the Secretary-Treasurer include preparing minutes of meetings and liaising with National Office staff concerning financial matters.  The Secretary-Treasurer sequentially occupies each office through to Immediate Past Chair. Candidates make a commitment to make best efforts to represent the Forum at the CBA Mid-Winter (February in Ottawa) and Annual Meeting (August) during the year in which they are Chair, although currently there is no funding for those meetings.

Executive Member positions are open to any Forum member willing to actively participate in the work of the Forum. Executive Members attend meetings and conference calls as they are able and provide input or take responsibility for various tasks as they arise. There are many opportunities to assist.

The criteria for nomination include participation and interest in the Forum’s activities, gender and regional representation, and representation from different levels of court. Elections for the three positions will take place at the Canadian Judges’ Forum’s annual meeting Friday, August 12, 2016 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. during the CBA Legal Conference in Ottawa.
