WHAT IS THE NEW BRUNSWICK LAWYERS’ ASSISTANCE PROGRAM? The Lawyers’ Assistance Program (LAP) is a confidential and free counseling service, intended to respond to any personal problem that affects your health, well-being and professional life. LAP is available to New Brunswick’s lawyers, judges, law students and their families.
WHAT DOES LAP DO? Call us for guidance with every-day issues. LAP provides counseling, referrals or peer support to help with any family, personal or work-related concerns, including:
- Stress and anxiety disorders
- Depression
- Sleep Disorders
- Alcohol or Drug Misuse
- Gambling Addictions
- Bereavement
- Couple, Marital or Family Problems
- Eldercare and Childcare
- Financial Difficulties
- Career and Work
- Anything else which may cause distress.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK? LAP maintains a confidential 24 /7 telephone access line at 1-888-315-2244 which is a link to counseling, advice, information, peer volunteers and other resources. Calls are answered and services are provided by professionals in New Brunswick. The Access Line is available in French or English. Through the Access Line, CBA members and their families may call for appropriate counseling services without charge, and are entitled to short-term counseling assistance.
WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY? LAP is a confidential service; it respects and maintains your privacy. In a small province like New Brunswick, concerns over confidentiality are forefront. You must feel secure in calling with a question or a problem without worrying that others will learn of it. All Counselors and Peer Volunteers must sign a confidentiality agreement and your identity will be protected.
WHAT IS THE COST FOR THE LAP SERVICE? Membership has its advantages! This Lawyers’ Assistance Program is a paid service provided by the CBA-NB Branch, the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Professional Liability Reserve Fund.
