Notes on the Annual General Meeting - June 6, 2006

The New Brunswick Chapter of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (NB CCCA) held its 2006 Annual Meeting in Saint John, New Brunswick, on June 6, 2006. The meeting was held at the offices of the New Brunswick Securities Commission, with the luncheon sponsored by Carswell and a networking afternoon tea sponsored by the New Brunswick Securities Commission.

The NB Chapter of CCCA invited Eric LeDrew of the firm McInnes Cooper to give a presentation on Solicitor-Client Privilege in the context of In-House Counsel. President Charles Gervais reported on the activities and initiatives of the New Brunswick Chapter of the CCCA over the past year.

The NB CCCA has been working to recruit new members and increase its profile in the New Brunswick legal and business community through such initiatives as the website directory of members.

The NB CCCA Executive Committee presented their Business Plan for the upcoming year. Plans include the finalization of governing documents, continued recruitment of new members, enhancement of networking opportunities amongst members, and assistance to members in fulfilling their corporate counsel responsibilities.

Proposed activities for 2006-2007 include:

• a fall 2006 luncheon meeting in Moncton;
• a winter 2007 meeting in Fredericton, to coincide with the CBA mid-winter event scheduled for February 8-10, 2007, in Fredericton; and
• a spring 2007 luncheon meeting in Saint John.

Topics for the meetings are to be determined.

Elections for the 2006-2007 NB CCCA Executive Committee were held at the close of the meeting. The 2006-2007 NB CCCA Executive Committee are:

• President: Manon Losier, General Counsel and Secretary to the New Brunswick Securities Commission (Saint John)
• Vice-President: Deborah Smith, Legal Counsel with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (Moncton)
• Secretary/Treasurer: Erin Toole, Legal Counsel with the New Brunswick Securities Commission (Saint John)
• Immediate Past President: Charles Gervais, Legal Counsel with Assumption Life (Moncton)

The 2006-2007 Executive Committee looks forward to a busy and successful year ahead, and to working with new and existing NB CCCA members, the National CCCA and the CBA.
