 ne of the cornerstone events held in British Columbia during Law Week is the annual Barry Sullivan Law Cup public speaking contest. The competition is sponsored by the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and is open to students enrolled in grades 11-12 in British Columbia. The Law Cup is named in memory of Barry Sullivan in recognition of his contributions to both the legal and educational professions. The Law Cup is presented to the provincial winner of the competition.
The 2008 Barry Sullivan Law Cup Public Speaking Contest was held on April 17, 2008 in the heritage courtroom at the Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby Street. Students presented five minute speeches on topics that pertained to this year's theme "The Law: Past, Presentand Future." The speakers were judged by a panel composed of The Honourable Lance Finch, Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of British Columbia, The Honourable Donald Brenner, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, The Honourable Hugh Stansfield, Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of British Columbia and Professor Elizabeth Edinger, University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law.
