aw Week is a national event held annually in April celebrating the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Originated by the Canadian Bar Association and first held in Canada in 1983, Law Week provides the public with an opportunity to learn about the law and some of the legal institutions that form the cornerstones of Canadian democracy. It also provides the profession with an opportunity to educate the public about the vital role lawyers and the judiciary play in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system.

The Law Week 2012 theme is Access to Justice: The Celebration of the Charter of Rights.

Law Week events across Canada are made possible through the efforts of hundreds of lawyers who generously donate thousands of hours of volunteer time. This year events are taking place in Cranbrook, Nanaimo, Vancouver and Victoria.

2012 Law Week events in British Columbia will be held from April 15 to 22, 2012.
Law Week events include the popular Dial-A-Lawyer program, mock trials, a public speaking contest for students, courthouse tours, a fun run and a free public forum in Vancouver.
