NOTICE REGARDING CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19)

In response to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the CBA Criminal Justice Conference.

We are currently investigating options for a new date and this will be communicated to all participants as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please be aware of the following information:

Registration Fees

Existing registration fees will be applied towards the rescheduled event. Should you be unable to participate in the new date once announced, registrants will be given the opportunity to request a full refund.

Accommodations

All reservations will be automatically cancelled for those who have reserved within the conference room block at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. If you have booked alternate accommodations, please cancel accordingly.

Travel

Major airlines including Air Canada, Porter and WestJet are waiving fees to change flights due to coronavirus. Conditions may stipulate that a change can only be made once. Participants may opt to delay requesting flight changes until the new conference dates have been announced.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Please stay tuned for further communication once the new dates are announced.

Questions may be directed to pd@cba.org.

CBA CRIMINAL
JUSTICE CONFERENCE

April 25, 2020 | Vancouver, BC

Presented by the CBA Criminal Justice Section

A criminal prosecution begins with the police. But how much power do they have? And what are the limits? How can the police effectively fight crime and, at the same time, respect Charter rights?

Detention, search, interrogation, disclosure and more are covered in this wide ranging programme with discussion, tips, and advice from leading Crown and defence counsel on how to effectively prosecute and defend matters where police conduct is in question. All this and senior judges from British Columbia and across the country participating to help guide you in dealing with what can be the most problematic areas of the criminal law.

And as ever, we will present our very popular Visual Fact Scenario raising issues that will be discussed throughout the programme. Can you guess the identity of The Queen of Clubs?

Join us for our annual educational feast which will contain professional ethics and practice management hours. Lunch and papers written especially for the programme are included. We promise you won’t regret it!
