Admission Requirements:
LL.M.: LL.B. with an above average grade point average, or its equivalent (First Class or Upper Second Class Honours).
Fields of Study:
The College offers programs of study leading to a Master of Laws degree in Aboriginal law, Commercial law, Constitutional law, Criminal law, Human rights law, Environmental Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution. Admission to undertake studies in a particular area of the program will depend upon the availability of faculty supervision in that area. Every effort is made to structure the programs to meet the needs of the individual student.
Program Requirements:
1. Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 9 credit units, 3 of which must be the Graduate Jurisprudence seminar.
2. An individual directed research project (3 credit units) may be undertaken in lieu of a course. With faculty approval, one of the required courses may be taken outside the College of Law in an associated discipline.
3. All students must undertake original research leading to a thesis of publishable quality.
Time limit:
The program ordinarily takes one to two years to complete.
Receipt of the LL. M. degree does not qualify a student for admission to the Bar in Canada.
Application for admission should be submitted to the Chair of the Law Graduate Studies Committee prior to the end of February. The requirement for admission is a LL.B. degree or equivalent.
The College of Law makes available a scholarship fund for outstanding applicants.
