Degrees & Specializations Offered:
The Faculty of Law offers graduate work leading to a thesis-based LLM degree. The graduate program is confined to the areas of natural resources, energy and environmental law. The Canadian Institute of Resources Law is affiliated with the Faculty of Law.
Admissions Requirements:
In addition to the requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Law has the following admission requirements:
A first academic degree in law. A grade point average (GPA) for the last two years of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale will be required.
For those applicants for whom English is a second language, a performance of 250 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination will be required.
Application Deadlines:
Applications are normally accepted for September admission only. The deadlines for complete applications is February 1.
Program/Course Requirements:
The LLM program includes the following requirements:
Law 701: Legal Process, Education and Research seminar.
At least two additional half courses from 600-level courses offered by the Faculty of Law or from a related discipline, or 500-level courses with special permission.
Students must remain in residence for two terms which will normally be consecutive. Students ordinarily require at least 15-18 months from first registration to complete the thesis requirement.
A substantial thesis.
Time Limit:
All requirements of the degree must be completed within three calendar years of initial registration.
