Continuing Legal Education Program

Aboriginal Law CLE

Standing at a crossroads: how are indigenous perspectives influencing the evolution of Canadian law?
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008

Presented by the Canadian Bar Association’s National Aboriginal Law Section and the Continuing Legal Education Committee

Over the past two decades, indigenous cultures and perspectives have slowly begun to infiltrate a wide range of legal proceedings in Canada, and the voices of indigenous persons and organizations have started to be heard and considered in the decision-making process.

What is the broader Canadian community learning from its indigenous counterparts, and how are these lessons informing the evolution of Canadian law?

This conference will examine these questions in a series of interdisciplinary panels, focusing on the environment and regulatory processes, sustainable development in the resource sector, oral history and elder testimony in civil litigation, and the effect of climate change on both Canadian sovereignty and Inuit traditions.

(Simultaneous interpretation English-Dogrib provided)
