The Logical Next Step: Reconciliation Payments for All Indian Residential School Survivors:
Follow-up letter to Deputy Minister — Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada

Aboriginal Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution Sections
April 2005

The Aboriginal Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections urge the government of Canada to make a reconciliation payment to all students of Indian Residential Schools who were alive on the date the government made its Statement of Reconciliation. A number of problems with the government's dispute resolution program were identified, and connected to the lack of success of the current process. A reconciliation payment would be the logical next step towards reconciliation with First Nations peoples, and would achieve a just and efficient process to attempt to redress an historic wrong. The submission is in keeping with resolutions adopted by CBA Council.
