Notice: Resolutions for debate at the 2009 Mid-Winter Meeting

All resolutions proposed for debate by Council at the 2009 Mid-Winter meeting must be received at the National Office by Tuesday, December 9, 2008.

The resolution must be accompanied by a completed submission form. Any background materials explaining or supporting the resolution must be submitted at the same time.

CBA Council meets twice a year to discuss questions of policy and public interest as submitted through the Resolutions, Constitution and By-Laws Committee. The resulting resolutions passed at the CBA Annual and Mid-Winter meetings determine the association's position on current legal issues and governance of the CBA, and promote the CBA mandate as outlined in the CBA mission statement:
 

  • improve the law;
     
  • improve the administration of justice;
     
  • improve and promote access to justice;
     
  • promote equality in the legal profession and the justice system;
     
  • improve and promote the knowledge, skills, ethical standards and well-being of members of the legal profession;
     
  • represent the legal profession nationally and internationally;
     
  • promote the interests of the members of the Canadian Bar Association.
