One of the great voices of contemporary literature and a remarkable Renaissance woman, Dr. Maya Angelou will deliver the keynote address at the Opening Plenary. Poet, educator, historian, best-selling author, actress, playwright, civilrights activist, producer and director, she travels the world making appearances and spreading her legendary wisdom. Renowned for her script writing and directing in the film industry, she has also made hundreds of television appearances.
Her best-selling autobiographical account of her youth, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, won critical acclaim in 1970 and was a two-hour TV special. Recipient of numerous honorary degrees, Dr. Angelou is sure to inspire with her views on themes of justice and human rights.
