Children’s and Youth Program
The YMCA Calgary is facilitating an action-packed program. Children will be divided into two age groups: 6 to 12 years, and 13 to 16 years. The program starts on Sunday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. and wraps up on Tuesday evening, Aug. 14. The Children’s & Youth Room will be at the Calgary Marriott, which is connected to the Telus Convention Centre. Here are some of the attractions and places youngsters will visit: Telus World of Science – interactive exhibits exploring Secrets of the Pharaohs, Inside the Human Body with 4D-technology, and Hands-On Nature – exhibits that spark the imagination. Royal Tyrrell Museum (Drumheller) – Canada’s only facility exclusively dedicated to the study of paleontology is also a great place of discovery for all ages and great fun for those who want to learn all about dinosaurs. A short hike is planned in Midland Provincial Park, home to the world-class Royal Tyrrell. Zoo & Botanical Gardens – more than 900 animals from around the world, including endangered species such as Siberian Tigers and Western Lowland Gorillas. In the Conservatory you can admire exotic Tropical, Arid and Butterfly Gardens. Swimming and games at the Eau Claire YMCA – Situated in the heart of Calgary’s Eau Claire market district, the YMCA features a 25-meter swimming pool, a gymnasium, running track, squash and racquetball courts. Calaway Park – Western Canada’s largest outdoor family amusement park has a collection of 30 rides. The park’s motto is safety, courtesy and experience.
