OTTAWA – Jack Innes, Q.C., of Halifax was named winner of the Canadian Bar Association’s 2011 Doug Miller Award at the President’s Dinner, held at the CBA Mid-Winter Meeting of Council in Charlevoix, Quebec, on Feb. 19.

“The selection of Jack as winner was a clear and simple choice. His leadership, his people skills and his infectious sense of humour made him a natural choice,” says CBA President Rod Snow, of Whitehorse.

Hailing from Nova Scotia, Jack Innes has been involved in Association activities for 42 years. After joining the CBA, he became involved in Branch activities before moving onto the national scene. He has served as President of CBA-Nova Scotia, President of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association and President of the Legal Professional Assistance Conference. He is currently serving as Chair of the CBA’s Membership Fee Review Working Group.

Known to CBA members as a mentor, advisor and financial guru, Jack Innes served as the National Treasurer from 2002 to 2007. He received the Nova Scotia Distinguished Service Award in 1999, and the Association’s Louis St. Laurent Award of Excellence in 2000 for his exceptional service to the goals of the CBA. When he left the CBA Treasury, an annual national staff award was created in his honour.

The Douglas Miller Award honours the late Doug Miller of Yellowknife, a former president of the Association’s Northwest Territories Branch and a very active CBA member who passed away in 1994. The award recognizes a CBA member who demonstrates outstanding dedication and team spirit.

The Canadian Bar Association is dedicated to support for the rule of law, and improvement in the law and the administration of justice. Some 37,000 lawyers, law teachers, and law students from across Canada are members.
