FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 28, 2010

OTTAWA – Commissioner of Competition Melanie Aitken headlines the Canadian Bar Association’s (CBA) 2010 Annual Competition Law Conference that takes place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Hilton Lac Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec.

“This year’s conference brings together an outstanding roster of leading Canadian and international competition lawyers, economists and government officials to discuss the current and future state of Canadian competition law,” says Richard Elliott, 2010 Conference Chair, of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, Toronto.

Plenary sessions will address developments in 2009 and 2010 since major amendments to the Competition Act were introduced 18 months ago. A panel of experts will look at the impact to date of the amendments and look ahead with a focus on the extent to which the Canadian system is moving toward a U.S.-style regime.

The Commissioner of Competition is the keynote speaker at the lunch on Thursday, Sept. 30. Her address is followed by “The Commissioner’s Showcase Panel” featuring experts from the U.S., U.K, and Brazil, offering their perspectives on transparency and agency decision-making.

The full conference details are available on the CBA website.

The day and a half program is open to accredited media. Please contact Hannah Bernstein for accreditation.

The Canadian Bar Association is dedicated to support for the rule of law, and improvement in the law and the administration of justice. Some 37,000 lawyers, law teachers, and law students from across Canada are members.
