With a stellar 15-year record of valuable contributions to the CBA, Doug Los' accomplishments are many and varied. "The bottom line about Doug Los is that whenever he has been asked, he has always said yes'," notes CBA President Eugene Meehan, Q.C. "Not just said yes', but followed up with action."
A former CBA-Ontario Branch President and member of the Board of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association, Doug Los has served the CBA on many fronts. As part of the CBA's Triennial Review, he led the Vision Team that set the long-term objectives of the CBA. He also played a leadership role in assuring the financial well-being of the CBA through his work on the Revenue Sharing Committee.
Mr. Los is a member of the National Committee on the merger of the County and District Law Presidents Association (CDLPA) and the CBA. He chaired CBA-Ontario's Strategic Planning committee and Nominations Committee, and has sat on numerous CBAO committees including the Government Relations Committee, the Contingency Fee Committee and the Zuber Ontario Court Inquiry Committee and co-chair of the Multi-Disciplinary Practice Committee.
Mr. Los is a senior partner and insurance litigation specialist in the firm of Weaver, Simmons, an 20-lawyer full service firm in Sudbury. A graduate of Laurentian University of Sudbury and the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law, he was called to the Bar in 1975. He has been heavily involved in community organizations, including the Laurentian University Board of Governors, on which he served as chair for two years.
The CBA President's Award recognizes the significant contribution of a Canadian jurist to the legal profession, to the Canadian Bar Association or to the public life of Canada. Mr. Los will receive his award at the CBA Awards Luncheon at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Halifax World Trade & Convention Centre, Port Royal E, as part of the CBA's Annual Conference.
