That is what our Legal Futures Initiative is all about – change. The legal profession has been faced with unprecedented fundamental change, such as:
- Changing client demands for legal services
- Development and implementation of new technologies
- Increasing pressure on the articling system
- Globalization and changing demographics in the profession
FIRST COMPREHENSIVE STUDY IN CANADA
The CBA’s Legal Futures Initiative looks at how and why the Canadian legal market is changing, and how it can successfully adapt to those changes. The first comprehensive study of its kind in Canada to address such extensive change, the Initiative has created a framework for ideas to help the legal profession understand the challenges ahead and shape future directions.
After two years of research, national consultations and contributions from lawyers in diverse practice settings, The Process we offered our insights on the changing legal marketplace in our comprehensive August 2014 report called, Futures: Transforming the Delivery of Legal Services in Canada.
TOWARD A MORE FLEXIBLE, DYNAMIC LEGAL PROFESSION
The Legal Future Initiative goes hand-in-hand with the Equal Justice Initiative, which is looking at solutions for the diminishing access to justice across Canada. Together, these two initiatives are finding innovative ways for the legal profession to reinvent itself.
As a champion of innovation for the legal profession in Canada, the Canadian Bar Association will continue to help lawyers and their clients benefit from change, and advocate for a flexible, dynamic and responsive legal profession.
