Current Opportunities

SIRD East Africa Research Volunteers

In November 2019, CBA’s International Initiatives Department deployed 4 young Canadian lawyers to rural communities in Kenya and Uganda for the adventure of a lifetime!

Amilah, Amelie, Evelyn and Muhammad are volunteers championing CBA’s Supporting Inclusive Resource Development (SIRD) in East Africa Project (a Global Affairs Canada funded initiative). Their work criss-crosses women’s reproductive health issues, safety and health for female artisanal miners, and advocacy activities aimed at empowering marginalised women to claim their rights and reduce harms occasioned by extractive industry operations.

SIRD Legal Policy Training Program

The program aims to equip a core group of lawyers with knowledge and skills in natural resource management to support inclusive and sustainable resource development in their countries. In particular, the program emphasizes the legal and economic empowerment of women and communities affected by mining, oil and gas industries.
