Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia In recognition of the immense contribution of Harry Rankin, QC in supporting access to justice for the poor, the CBABC resolved to establish an annual reward to recognize outstanding contributions by a member of CBABC in the area of pro bono work.
Eligibility To be eligible for the Award, an individual must:
- be a resident of British Columbia
- be a member of the CBABC (current members of the Executive of the CBABC are not eligible)
- have demonstrated outstanding contribution in the area of pro bono work, including any or all of the following activities:
- pro bono legal services to a client(s)
- assisting community organizations in establishing pro bono clinics
- coordinating pro bono services
- education and advocacy work to promote pro bono culture
Special consideration will be given to involvement in providing pro bono legal services directly to persons of limited means, consistent with the spirit and contribution of Harry Rankin, QC. There are no posthumous awards.
Nomination Procedure The nominee must be advised that his or her name has been put forward for this Award, and must sign the nomination form. Any nomination requires the signatures of two BC Branch members in good standing.
The Award will be presented annually at the June meeting of CBABC Provincial Council.
Submissions For Nomination Please provide a summary explaining why you believe the nominee fulfils the qualifications, with details explaining what makes their contribution unique. The nomination form should be accompanied by a resume of the nominee and letter(s) of support detailing the nominee’s qualification for the Award.
