VANCOUVER – The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch (CBABC) proudly honors lawyers for their contribution to the community and to the legal profession. Five lawyers have received CBA Community Service Awards, the highest honour provided by the CBABC in recognition of community involvement and contribution outside of the practice of law.
The five award recipients for the year 2003 are:
Michael B Ellis (Victoria) Gavin Hume QC (Vancouver) Linda D Locke (Hazelton) Michael A McVea (Campbell River) James William Stout (Vancouver)
The Community Service Awards were established by the Branch to provide an opportunity for recognition of exceptional service to the community by BC lawyers. Each candidate was nominated by two colleagues and one member of their community. Selection Committee members included H A D Oliver, BC Conflict of Interest Commissioner; Trude LaBossiere Huebner, Researcher/Writer; Frances Statham, Ministry of Attorney General; Doug Robinson QC, a Branch Past President; Mark Slay, Branch member; and Gillian Wallace QC, former Deputy Minister, Ministry of Attorney General.
