VANCOUVER – The Canadian Bar Association BC Branch proudly honours lawyers for their contribution to the community and to the legal profession. Three lawyers have received CBA Community Service Awards, the highest honour provided by the Branch in recognition of community involvement and contribution outside of the practice of law.
The three award winners for the year 2002 are: Halldor Bjarnason (Vancouver) Gary M Brooke (Salmon Arm); and G Glen Ridgway QC (Duncan). Background material on each recipient is attached.
The Community Service Awards were established by the Branch to provide an opportunity for recognition of exceptional service to the community by BC lawyers. Each candidate was nominated by two colleagues and one member of the community. Selection Committee members included H A D Oliver, BC Conflict of Interest Commissioner; Trude LaBossiere Huebner, Researcher/Writer; Frances Statham, Ministry of Attorney General; Doug Robinson QC, a Branch Past President; and Mark Slay, Branch Communications Committee member.
