Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia
The highest award a Branch can bestow on one of its members has been given to Peter Wilson in recognition of his years of contribution to the provision of legal services to poor and marginalized people in BC. “There is no way that we can do justice to the story of all the people whose lives Peter has touched,” said President Mayland McKimm. “They number in the thousands, not only among the clients who have accessed Legal Aid, but also among those who were not eligible for Legal Aid and he represented them anyway, and among the ranks of Legal Aid lawyers throughout BC on whose behalf Peter fought for reasonable compensation.” Mr. Wilson was presented with the Georges A Goyer Award at the 1999 Bench and Bar Dinner in Vancouver on November 16, 1999.
The Georges A Goyer, QC Memorial Award For Distinguished Service was created to recognize exceptional contributions to the legal profession, to jurisprudence or to the law in British Columbia. The award was established in 1992 in memory of Georges A Goyer, QC, a respected member of the BC Branch who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
