 Community Service Awards

Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia
To recognize the valuable contributions of our members serving the communities in our province, the CBABC sponsors Community Service Awards in each county. A limited number of awards are awarded in each county. The awards honour CBA members who have demonstrated outstanding dedication, service and commitment to the community. Service to the profession and contributions of a legal nature are not considered for these awards.

Eligibility
To qualify for a Community Service Award, an individual must:

  • be resident of BC;
  • be a member of the CBABC, but not a member of the Executive;
  • have made exceptional contributions and/or achievements using his or her volunteer skills for the betterment of the community or a non-profit organization; and
  • have had little or no recognition or previous awards.

Nominations
Each nomination requires the signatures of two BC Branch members in good standing, and one non-lawyer member of the nominee’s community, preferably from an organization that has benefited from participation by the nominee. Nominations are valid for two years.

Submissions For Nomination: Please provide a summary explaining why you believe the nominee fulfils the qualifications, with details explaining what makes his or her contribution unique. Letters of support, particularly from community members, have proven helpful to the Selection Committee in their deliberations. It is also recommended that you include a current curriculum vitae of the nominee. Please include the following information:

  • Time commitment involved in volunteer contribution
  • Length of service
  • Skill involved in commitment
  • Whether the commitment involved managing people, events or funds
  • The overall effort expended in pursuit of the organization’s goals
  • The direct benefit to the community resulting from the nominee’s involvement
