Sections are practice-focused groups designed to meet the educational, advocacy and professional needs of law and articling students and lawyers. No other legal organization in Canada has the scope and depth of experts influencing legislative reform, contributing to legal education, and exchanging practical advice. Section membership provides law and articling students and lawyers with an excellent means to enhance their legal expertise, network, and contribute to the legal profession and community.
The Young Lawyers Section is beneficial for law and articling students and lawyers with less than 10 years call and are under 40 years of age. The Section focuses on the challenges facing young lawyers practising on their own or in firms. The CBABC has Sections for Young Lawyers in the Lower Mainland, Victoria and the Okanagan.
CBABC law and articling students receive three free enrolments and pay $25.00 plus tax per Section thereafter. CBA membership for law students is $20 per year, making membership and enrolment in Sections worthwhile. Read more about membership fees.
Through CBABC Section pages, Section members can access upcoming meeting notices, minutes, executive contact information, and more. Section leadership is provided by officers elected by Section members. CBABC law and articling students are welcome to participate as an officer of the Section in a supplementary role such as Treasurer or Secretary. Read more.
Section Listservs Several Sections have listservs that provide an effective and active vehicle for member communications respecting professional interests, including matters of law, practice and procedure, legislative developments, and the like. Listservs are a convenient way for CBA members to share information, and ask and answer questions. CBABC listservs allow members to communicate with hundreds of other participating lawyers via email. National Sections represent thirty-one groups of CBA members, organized according to specific areas of law, which provide communication services and facilitate coordination among Branch Sections and members on issues of national concern. Several national Sections have listservs that provide an effective and active vehicle for member communications respecting professional interests, including matters of law, practice and procedure, legislative developments, and the like.
