Odette graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 1987. She completed the Law Society's Mediation course in 1996 and has taken subsequent conflict resolution courses through the Justice Institute.

She joined the Quadra Legal Centre in 2000. Since 2001, she has represented the Director of Child, Family and Community Service. Odette also maintains an active practice in the area of litigation and mediation, including, Personal Injury, Small Claims and Estate matters. Additionally, she practices in the areas of Wills and Estates and residential Real Estate and Mortgages.

Odette has been active in local Parents Advisory Councils for the past 12 years. For 7 years, she was a member of the Board of the Child Abuse Prevention and Counseling Society of Victoria, which operates the Mary Manning Centre. She currently volunteers at the Salvation Army Law Clinics run by the Western Canada Society to Access Justice. Odette was recently appointed Chair of the BC CBA Court Services Committee.
