Gary Youngman leads VANOC’s efforts to achieve unprecedented Aboriginal Participation in the 2010 Winter Games, as Consulting Director, Aboriginal Participation. He has extensive experience as a lawyer, businessperson, negotiator, and mediator. He has practiced law in Alberta and British Columbia specializing in aboriginal treaty and self-government negotiations, energy law, taxation, and business law. He has served in senior positions to public governments, First Nation governments, aboriginal organizations and the private sector. He has been retained on several major projects including the $1.2 billion Skytrain Millennium Line, the 2010 Olympic Bid, the Richmond Airport Vancouver (Canada) Line, as well as the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mr. Youngman has worked in the areas of communication, public and First Nation consultations and accommodation, multiparty land use planning, economic development, transportation infrastructure, tribal justice, health governance, alternative dispute resolution and Treaty negotiations.
