Leona M Sparrow is a member of the Musqueam Indian Band. She is the Director of the Treaty Directorate for the Band in the BC Treaty process. She currently serves on numerous volunteer boards and works in several areas providing services mainly to the First Nations community.
Ms Sparrow is Musqueam’s liaison to the University of British Columbia and has been an invited Member of the UBC President’s Community Advisory Committee. She is the Musqueam liaison with the Museum of Anthropology, recently appointed to its Advisory Board. She also manages the business affairs of a number of limited companies involved in commercial fishing activities and maintains a part-time law practice.
Leona has been an elected Councillor for the Musqueam Indian Band serving two year terms commencing 1979-1986, 1991-1998. She was appointed to the University of BC Senate by the Province of BC for a series of three-year terms commencing September 1993 through December 2003, during which time, she was also invited to be a Member of the Dean’s First Nations Advisory Committee, UBC Faculty of Law.
