Marika Giles graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2001 and, after clerking with the Federal Court of Canada, was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2002 and British Columbia in January 2003.
Professionally, Marika divides her time between a part-time practice with Conkie & Company and a freelance barrister’s practice, assisting counsel throughout Vancouver balance their busy workloads. Marika practices civil litigation, with particular emphasis on employment, personal injury, intellectual property and commercial disputes. Marika also consults on privacy issues and has significant experience in administrative law, including professional regulation.
Marika is one of those compulsive joiners, and was an involved member of her university and law school communities. Now, she is an active member of the CBA and is a Co-Chair of the Young Lawyers-Lower Mainland section. Marika is also a member of EGALE, Westcoast LEAF and the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Having grown up in Montréal, Marika is fluently bilingual, and is particularly proud of her work with the francophone community in Vancouver. Marika sits on the Board of Directors of the Association des juristes d’expression française de la Colombie-Britannique (AJEFCB).
Marika’s goal, as the Young Lawyers Officer, is to see the CBA break down the barriers that limit the ability of so many young lawyers to thrive in their professional lives and to find ways of restoring both pride and joy in the practice of law.
