Kerry L Simmons
President

Kerry practices at Cook Roberts LLP where she assists clients with family law and civil litigation disputes. Called to the Bar in 2000, Kerry has been a member of Provincial Council as a Section Chair from 2001 to 2007 and as an Elected Member for Victoria County since 2007. She was the Young Lawyers Representative from 2008 to 2010. Kerry is also a Sessional Instructor at the Faculty of Law, University of Victoria teaching Civil Procedure and Drafting. Among her professional and community contributions, she is the Chair of the Inquiry Committee of the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia. Read more.

 
 

Dean Crawford
Vice-President
Dean is a Partner in the Vancouver office of Heenan Blaikie LLP. His practice has a particular focus on employment law, where he has considerable experience in wrongful dismissal litigation, executive compensation issues, enforcement of restrictive covenants, employment contracts and human rights. A former political assistant to Canada’s Minister of Justice and Minister of Health, Dean also carries out a government relations and regulatory practice. He has extensive experience representing clients in the pharmaceutical and health care sectors and frequently provides analysis and advice on government policy initiatives and regulatory reform. Read more.

 
 

Sharon Matthews 
Past President 2011/2012

Sharon combines a practice focussing on aviation cases, product liability cases and class actions with volunteer work in the legal community. Sharon is a partner with Camp Fiorante Matthews Mogerman and acts for plaintiffs in aviation and product liability cases and on class actions. In addition to several years of involvement with the CBA, in both provincial and national roles, In addition to her practice, Sharon volunteers as a roster lawyer for Pro Bono BC, and is a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. Alex Shorten
Secretary Treasurer
As a sole practitioner, Alex is a senior legal and business advisor with experience working with major North American forest products, construction and parking management companies. At the end of 2012 he completed a contract as Senior Associate Counsel at Bull, Housser & Tupper LLP. He has 24 years of experience working in senior legal and management positions for corporations combined with 15 years in private practice. Alex has also been a managing partner of a mid-sized Vancouver law firm. He obtained his BA in 1967 and his JD in 1972 from the University of Saskatchewan was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1973. His practice includes business law, mergers and acquisitions, competition law, forestry and construction law. Read more.

 
 

Clint Sadlemyer
Officer

Clint practices exclusively in the area of Criminal law. He joined Crown Counsel Aug 1, 2012 and now lives and works in Fort St. John. He articled in Nanaimo and was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1993. Clint remained in Nanaimo until his move north, was President of the Nanaimo County Bar Association for 5 terms and was the driving force behind Nanaimo’s own Battle of the Lawyers’ Bar Bands. Carmen Joy Rogers

Since 1994, Carmen Rogers has been a Crown prosecutor with the Ministry of Justice, originally in Vancouver, and now in Victoria. Carmen was called to the bar in 1990 after graduating from UBC. Carmen has been an elected member of Provincial Council since 2007. She was the co-chair of the CBA Victoria Criminal subsection from 2007 – 2011. She was an officer on the CBABC Executive in 2010/2011. She has been a member of and Executive Liaison to the Court Services and the Legal Aid Committee. She has served on the Advisory Committee to Judicial Council. Carmen has also been involved with the CBA National International Development Program, the National Criminal Justice Section, Law Week Victoria and the CBABC law student mentorship program. Read more.

 
 

Ken Armstrong 
Officer
Ken practices insurance defence litigation with Stewart & Company in Vancouver. He was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1996 and has practiced in Vancouver and Westminster County since. He has been a member of provincial council, as a section chair or elected member, virtually non-stop since 1997/98. He served on the executive from 1999 to 2002, as a Young Lawyers Representative and an Officer. He is also a dedicated Little League Baseball volunteer and recently began coaching small-side soccer to very young boys. Read more.

 
 

Jasroop Grewal
Young Lawyers Representative
Jasroop is an associate at Pacific Law Group in Vancouver.  He practices civil litigation with a focus on personal injury, family and immigration law.  He was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2009.  Jasroop obtained a BA (Psychology) from University of British Columbia, and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a LLB in 2008.  Among his professional and community contributions, he is the Chair of the CBA Young Lawyers – Okanagan Section and a board member of the South Asian Family Association. Read more.

Caroline Nevin, MBA, CAE
Executive Director
Caroline Nevin brings to her position more than 25 years of experience in communications, business and association management in British Columbia and Alberta. Committed to excellence in association management, Caroline has earned a Masters of Business Administration, the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) designation of Certified Association Executive as well as a Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Athabasca University.
