2011 Awards Luncheon

The Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch (CBABC) Women Lawyers Forum (WLF) held an Awards Luncheon on February 25, 2011 in celebration of its eighth year of successfully promoting the stature and influence of women in the legal profession. The Honourable Associate Chief Justice Anne MacKenzie of the Supreme Court of British Columbia spoke on her career experiences.

The CBABC WLF Award of Excellence was presented to Margaret Ostrowski, QC in recognition of her many distinguished career achievements and outstanding contributions to women in the legal profession as a change agent, leader and mentor.

The Award of Excellence celebrates the accomplishments of a woman who has succeeded in breaking new ground for women in the legal profession in British Columbia. The Award recognizes an exceptional woman who has taken risks, fostered change and ultimately opened doors for women lawyers. In this award we are not only celebrating the woman’s distinguished career achievements, but her outstanding contributions to women in the legal profession as a change agent, leader and mentor.

The CBABC WLF Debra Van Ginkel, QC Mentoring Award was presented to Joan M. Gordon in recognition of her many years as a mentor in the CBABC WLF Mentoring Program. The Award, designed by Debra's husband Murray Robinson, is a glass vase etched with two calla lilies representing Debra's favourite flowers that are entwined to represent the mentoring relationship.
